The Need for Shade
Summer has come early and the temperature was perfect for my lunchtime walk today. It was just warm enough to notice the drop in temperature when walking under the shade of the trees along the route. Multiple, yet brief, 20 metre oasis of coolness. They were enough to keep me going and make the walk more enjoyable than it would have been in full sun the whole way.
In a similar manner to the shade's moment of respite, I find my daily practice of meditation does the same for my mind. It has helped me develop moments of stillness during the meditation itself and throughout the day. Those moments make life more enjoyable. At times they have been necessary to make life tolerable. No matter how brief there is enough there to keep me going a little further.
As the walk is necessary for my physical health, meditation is necessary for my mental health.
